Minifigures Series 4 Surfer Girl

Posted on | February 22, 2012 | No Comments | Facebook comments

Finally the Surfer Dude minifigure from Series 2 has a friend in the Minifigures Series 4 Surfer Girl to show off his cool moves.

Although from what I have heard she can hold her own with great Air tricks, Cutbacks, Hang Fives, Off the lips, and Switch footing!

The Surfer Girl loves the ocean, from the biggest sandy beach to the tiniest tropical fish. She’s happy just to be in the water, and she’s even happier still when she finds a new surfing challenge to test her skill.

Interview With Fritz

Posted on | February 21, 2012 | No Comments | Facebook comments

Collecting minifigures can be a great hobby, but when you have finally got all the ones you want, then what do you do with them, as it is a shame if they just become dust collectors?

There is a large community on Flickr that take parts from existing minifigures and then create their own custom minifigures taking inspiration from various sources. We are delighted to interview Fritz and learn a bit more about this fantastic hobby.

How did you first get into custom minifigs?

I have always liked the minifigures. And I remember when I was small and I watched James Bond movies with my dad, and after that I always made the characters from the movie. Back then I made all of the guns out of bricks. And so one day, I got a Star Wars set for Christmas, and I loved the weapons! And so I got into Star Wars. But I changed interest when I visited a war museum, and there was uniforms, guns, tanks etc. And that’s how I got into WW1/WW2.

Where do you get your ideas and inspiration from?

Well it depends what I build. My western stuff is mostly inspired by the movie 3:10 To Yuma and the game Red Dead Redemption. I got interested in WW1 thanks to the movie The Red Baron. And later I found out that a relative to the famous fighter pilot lives in the same house as me! And so for my biggest interest; WW2. I get interested by many games (for example World Of Tanks and Call Of Duty: World At War) and movies, one of my favorite WW2 movie must be Der Untergang. A great inspiration!

Being a purist is it hard sourcing the parts you need?

Well, sometimes it’s hard to find a part that works good for the thing you want, but then again, being a purist your creativity gets bigger! I always try to get updated what sets are coming, then I look for good parts for purist minifigs/vehicles etc.

Quality painted minifigs stand-out, however is there any skill in building purist minifigs?

Yes, the pieces needs to work good together, and of course you need much creativity when being a purist.

What do you think of the Lego Collectors minifigures series?

Ah! I love those! So many great pieces for purist minifigures! Like the hat usage here. What I also like is that about 90% of the pieces there are new pieces, with so many possibilities!

Are you currently on any new projects?

Yes I am, I am working on a “Blitzkrieg France” MoC and some Axis armoured vehicles. I have started on them but you guys will have to wait a while to see them.

Do you have any tips to pass onto other customisers?

Yes. Try to use the thing that looks best. Think if you know any good pieces that looks like the thing you need, either you try to find it in your own LEGO collection, or you can order/trade for them.
