The first LEGO Batman sets were released in 2006 following the release of the movie Batman Begins. The sets and minifigures were inspired by both the original DC comic books and the movie. LEGO decided to discontinue the theme in 2008 making the sets and minifigures highly collectible.
In early 2012 the theme was relaunched and rebranded as LEGO Super Heroes.
