Star Wars

The Star Wars Trilogy were some of the most iconic films of my early years and are films I still enjoy watching today. Even the latest three films have their good points, honest they do!

LEGO has been producing Star Wars themed sets and minifigures for many years and are still some of the most popular products that LEGO sell today. The amount of sets available is enough to keep any collector busy for years and owning some of the hard to find sets could make you pretty well off should you decide to sell them.

Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace is the first film in the series, but the fourth film to be released. This episode introduces us to characters such as Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, R2-D2, Yoda and Padmé Amidala. Anakin Skywalker is also a key character, found on Tatooine by Qui-Gon as a young slave, Qui-Gon saw his potential and new he was something special. After winning a pod race, Anakin was set free from slavery and was taken to the Jedi High Council for training. Initially denied training as Qui-Gon’s padawan, it was the death of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan’s promise that led the Yoda and the other members of the Jedi Council to agree to let Obi-Wan Kenobi to train Anakin in the ways of the force.

Star Wars II: Attack Of The Clones is the second film in the series and takes place several years after The Phantom Menace when Anakin has grown up and has had many missions with Obi-Wan. It is this film where Anakin and Padmé become close and their relationship starts. We also get introduced to Jango and a young Boba Fett. We also see the huge Clone Army forming and being used along the Jedi Knights, not against them, to fight the robot armies of the Republic. We start to see the power of the Emperor and the way he manipulates things to his favour to start his plans for his empire. This is the film where we get the first hint about the famous Death Star.

Star Wars III: Revenge Of The Sith is the third film in the series. This film has the more important chapters of the story. We see Anakin grow and increase his power and eventually get seduced by the dark side of the force. Padmé becomes pregnant and has twins, Luke and Leia but dies during child birth after learning of Anakin’s decision to join the dark side and become Darth Vader. A battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi leaves Anakin fighting for his life and the Emperor turning him into the iconic Darth Vader. During this chapter, we also see the Clone Army become the servant of the Emperor and fight against the Jedi killing most remaining Jedi Knights. Yoda manages to escape and goes into hiding while Obi-Wan takes the new born Luke to be looked after by Anakin’s step brother Owen Lars and his wife Beru. Leia was taken to be adopted by Bail Organa and his wife on Alderaan. R2-D2 and C-3PO become the rather unconventional partnership that we see throughout the rest of the films.

Star Wars IV: A New Hope jumps a number of years when Luke Skywalker and Leia are older. Leia is a Princess and Luke is a frustrated moisture farmer wanting to get away and join the rebellion as a pilot following his friends. We are introduced to the more well known characters such as Han Solo, Chewbacca, Stormtroopers, Grand Moff Tarkin and obviously Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. We see an older Obi-Wan Kenobi and get to see inside the Death Star. Obi-Wan begins to teach Luke the ways of the force and a battle with Darth Vader leads to the demise of Obi-Wan Kenobi after letting Darth Vader kill him to help Luke escape. Along with the Death Star, we also get to see the iconic space craft for the first time like the The Millennium Falcon, X-Wing Fighter, Tie Fighters and the Imperial Shuttles.

Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back is the fifth film in the series but the one thought to be the best of the lot. Again we get introduced to several new characters including an much older Yoda, Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett as a bounty hunter and we see vehicles like the AT-AT for the first time too. It is at Cloud City that we see several of the most important scenes in the entire series. We see the first light sabre battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader and the famous line when Darth Vader tells Luke that he is Luke’s father. Another scene is when Han Solo gets frozen in carbonite after being captured by Darth Vader and handed over to Boba Fett to be taken to Jabba The Hutt.

Star Wars VI: The Return Of The Jedi is the final film in the series and sees a daring rescue of Han Solo by Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. This leads to Jabba being destroyed on his sail barge and Boba Fett meeting his end during the rescue battle. We also get introduced to the Ewoks, a race of bear like creatures who help the Rebellion disable the force field of the Death Star to enable a large attack on the space station ultimately ending in it’s destruction. Luke Skywalker, now a fully fledged Jedi Knight, has his final battle with Darth Vader and after almost being defeated by the Emperor, finally gets saved by Darth Vader who kills the Emperor to save his son proving there was still some good left in him. Darth Vader doesn’t make it though and Luke is with him when he dies. The destruction of the Emperor leads to the demise of the Republic and victory for the Rebellion.
